Projects & Site Investigation Works

This page presents a selection of ground and structural investigation works carried out in support of engineering assessment, design verification, and construction planning. Projects are grouped by service type to demonstrate the methods, access constraints, and temporary works considerations encountered on site.

Diamond Drilling Projects

Our diamond drilling works support structural and ground investigations where precise openings or material samples are required. We carry out controlled, non-percussive drilling through concrete, masonry, and structural elements to obtain clean cores for testing, inspection, and verification, as well as to form openings for excavation and service access.

Core diameters typically range from 50 mm to 450 mm, with depths tailored to project requirements, including deep coring exceeding 7–8 metres where conditions allow. All works are undertaken with a focus on accuracy, efficiency, and minimal disturbance, particularly in live or constrained environments.

Trial Pitting & Excavation Projects

Our trial pitting and excavation works support ground investigation, service identification, and drainage assessment across a wide range of site conditions. We carry out trial pits and trenches using a combination of hand digging, vacuum excavation (Vac-Ex), and mechanical excavation, selecting the most appropriate method based on safety, access, and proximity to live services.

Excavations are undertaken to expose foundations, confirm ground stratigraphy, locate buried services, and facilitate soakaway and infiltration testing where required. All works are carefully planned and controlled to minimise risk, protect existing assets, and provide engineers with clear, reliable information to support design and construction decisions.

Shoring & Temporary Works Projects

Our shoring and temporary works projects support safe excavation, trial pitting, and structural investigations where ground stability or access presents a risk. We install and dismantle temporary support systems in accordance with approved Temporary Works Designs, including timber shoring, trench boxes, and bespoke support arrangements to maintain stability and protect personnel.

Works are carried out by trained operatives experienced in confined-space environments, with safe access and restraint systems such as davit arms, gantry systems, and fall-arrest equipment used where required. All temporary works are planned and executed with a strong focus on safety, control, and compliance, ensuring excavations remain stable throughout the works and are safely reinstated on completion.

Dynamic Sampling & Probing Projects

Our dynamic sampling and probing projects provide efficient ground investigation solutions for sites with restricted access or programme constraints. Using modular window sampling rigs, we obtain disturbed and undisturbed soil samples, as well as carry out Dynamic Probing Super Heavy (DPSH) testing to assess ground strength and stratigraphy.

The modular rig can be broken down to access tight or confined locations, including urban sites, landscaped areas, and restricted working zones. Sampling depths typically range up to 7–10 metres, depending on ground conditions. Equipment can be operated using electric or fuel-powered systems, allowing flexibility across a wide range of site environments while maintaining controlled, accurate results.

Structural Investigation Projects

Our structural investigation projects support engineers in understanding existing construction by carrying out controlled opening-up works to expose structural elements. This includes revealing reinforcement, beams, slabs, connections, and construction build-ups within walls, floors, and other structural components.

Works are carefully planned to allow inspection, measurement, and sampling (including concrete, masonry, or dust samples where required) to inform engineering assessments and drawings. All investigations are undertaken in live or occupied environments where necessary, with appropriate protection measures in place, and reinstatement carried out in accordance with the agreed scope following completion.
